I had an injury that needed some time to heal so I took about a month off from training. When I saw the 90 Challenge come up it seemed like a great way to jump back in.
I am only about 11 hours into training (which is nearly 1/3 of the way to the minimum training hour goal) at the Yellow Belt or 8 kyu level.
Today I did Class 7 which is a beginner kata class using the 3 step method. We worked on Taikyoku Shodan for the entire class followed by a brief cooldown.
Thoughts: I’ve worked on this kata a little already both in the lessons tab and in Class 5. The first few times I tried it I was a bit confused. There are only 20 steps but they frequently change direction in ways that don’t seem to come natural to me. This time though I felt that I had a pretty good idea of where I was going and what I would do when I got there. Progress. Sensei Jon changes the perspective several times in order to allow you to see the kata from many angles. For me personally I find the best perspective to be the one where he turns his back to the camera. It is much easier to mimic his movements when he isn’t a mirror image of me. I particularly like the slowed down version found in the lessons.
